NFL Kicks of the Week, Week 5: Cam Little Silences the Eagles From 57 in London
By FKS Journal · Published · 4 min read
Eight seconds left in London, down one, and the long snapper was a defensive lineman. Cam Little still put a 57-yard kick through the uprights as time expired, and the Jaguars beat the Eagles 19-17. Our model gave that kick a 64% chance before the snap. It's the Kick of the Week, and it wasn't close.
Kick of the Week: Cam Little, 57 yards, walk-off in London
The last 3:20 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were chaos. Little missed an extra point wide left after Parker Washington's touchdown, on a high snap from backup snapper DaVon Hamilton, who was filling in for the injured Ross Matiscik. That left Jacksonville up 16-14. Jake Elliott then gave Philadelphia a 17-16 lead with a 48-yarder with eight seconds left. Ameer Abdullah returned the kickoff 53 yards to the Eagles' 39, and one second remained.
Cam Little walked out for a 57-yarder, with the same snapper whose high snap had just cost him an extra point and his punter, Logan Cooke, holding. He hit it. Then he ran to the end zone with his arms spread wide in Jude Bellingham's celebration, in Tottenham's stadium. He called it "the coolest moment of my career."

The numbers make it look even better. From 56 to 58 yards, NFL kickers made 128 of 206 tries over the last five seasons, 62%. Little needed one of those on the last play of the game, a minute after a miss, with a defensive lineman snapping. The Jacksonville Jaguars are 4-1.
Runner-up: Tyler Bass, 45 yards, overtime winner on Monday night

Buffalo and the Rams traded body blows for four quarters at SoFi Stadium. Then the special teams decided it. Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis's 48-yard try in overtime, and Tyler Bass hit from 45 with about two minutes left in the extra period. Bills 37, Rams 34. Joe Brady chose to kick on second-and-10 rather than run more plays, and the kick was 83% by our model. Bass also hit from 49 and 23 earlier and missed an extra point.
Third: Spencer Shrader, 57 yards, Colts at Steelers

Spencer Shrader made 57- and 56-yarders in the first quarter at Pittsburgh. Both counted in a 34-22 loss, but nobody in the league hit two kicks that long this week. Shrader went 5-for-5 and was second in MAKE for the week, after leading it in Weeks 3 and 4. He is 6-for-6 from 50 yards or more this season.
Fourth: Jason Sanders, 54 yards, protecting a one-point lead

The Jets led Cleveland by one point at the start of the fourth quarter when Jason Sanders hit from 54. That moved the lead to four points, and New York won 17-12. In a one-score game, a long kick that makes the other team need a touchdown is worth a lot.
Fifth: Will Reichard, 55 yards, Vikings vs. Saints

Will Reichard hit from 55 with 7:06 left to push Minnesota's lead to 10, and the Vikings beat New Orleans 23-13. It was his second make from 54 or longer in the game.

Harrison Mevis had a 48-yarder in overtime that would have put the Rams in front. By our model, NFL kickers make that kick about four times in five. It was blocked, Buffalo took over, and Bass won it two minutes later. Blocks are usually a protection problem as much as a kicker problem. Mevis had also missed from 50 in the first quarter.
The Giants and Commanders tied 27-27 after Dominic Zvada missed a 46-yarder wide left in overtime. Zvada had also made a 56-yarder earlier in the day.

How we pick the Kicks of the Week
Every made field goal gets a Kick Score: how unlikely it was (one minus the make chance, times 10), plus 0.15 for each yard past 45, plus the moment: 8 for a walk-off winner, 4 for a go-ahead kick, 3 for a tying kick, 1 for any other fourth-quarter or overtime kick in a one-score game. The moment counts in full on kicks with a make chance of 60% or less and shrinks on chip shots, so a long bomb can outrank a short winner. Make chances come from the same distance and conditions model behind the MAKE Rankings. A kicker can appear at most twice. Last week: NFL Kicks of the Week, Week 4: Andre Szmyt Wins It From 56, Tyler Loop Hits 64.

43%Houston Texans, the highest share (174 of 404 points)
22%Buffalo Bills, the lowest share (105 of 481 points)
Kicker points are 3 per field goal and 1 per extra point, divided by each team’s points in the same games. A high share can mean a great kicker, or an offense that often stalls before the end zone, so read it next to MAKE.
